Two Empowering Young Writers slideshows are included below: “Writers’ Tools: Your Five Senses” and “Let’s Write! Your Five Senses.” The first slideshow explores each of the individual five senses, encouraging students to observe the world around them with sensitivity and awareness, a vital skill needed to become a good writer. The “Let’s Write!” slideshow includes observation activities guiding students in using their five senses to observe, compare, and contrast. This slideshow also includes five writing exercises that encourage kids to hone their observational skills, expanding their ability to write descriptively using sensory language.

Teacher Tips! Please preview the slideshows and educator guides before sharing with your students so you can determine which activities and exercises will best meet the needs of your class. We also recommend that you show this slideshow to your students before presenting the “Power Words,” “Show Don’t Tell,” and “Creating Characters” slideshows.
