Empowering Young Writers: Writers’ Tools
Using illustrations from a wide variety of diverse picture books, the Writers’ Tools slideshows demonstrate how students can use their five physical senses—and their experiences, memories, creativity, and imaginations—to become better writers and storytellers.
This section includes the following slideshows. Click on a slideshow title or scroll down to see all the Writers’ Tools resources.
- I. Your Five Senses Part I (Sight, Smell, Taste, Hearing, and Touch)
- I. Your Five Senses Part II (Let’s Write!)
- II. Experience and Memory
- III. Imagination Power
- IV. Creativity and Ideas
Each slideshow will be accompanied by an educator guide to ensure teachers are able to maximize the content with their students. You can check out these draft versions of each slideshow by clicking the right arrow.
To view each slideshow in its biggest size, first click the icon in the bottom-right corner to open the slideshow in a new window. Then click Start Slide Show and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to advance the show.
Note: The time required to initially load each slideshow will vary depending upon the speed of your computer. Older computers may require you to wait a few seconds for each slideshow to load.
