Author Patricia C. McKissack recommends To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. “To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, has been enjoyed by generations of readers, including me. The characters are believable; the action is engaging; the setting is familiar, and the ideas are challenging! I read Mockingbird when I was a junior in high school. When I finished, I hugged the book, turned to the first page and began reading it again.”
To Kill a Mockingbird (first published in 1960) is recommended for ages 8 and up.
