Laura Vaccaro Seeger

Author and illustrator Laura Vaccaro Seeger recommends The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper. “I’ve chosen The Little Engine That Could because it’s the first picture book that I can remember having read to me, and it was always a favorite. Most vividly, I remember sitting on my grandmother’s lap as she read it to me over and over and over again. I was greatly influenced by the idea that you can do anything at all, if you just try hard enough.”

The Little Engine That Could (first published in 1930) is recommended for ages 3 and up.
