The National Children’s Book Literacy Alliance is sponsoring another major reading event in October – a beautiful time to visit Plainville, Massachusetts and the enchanting bookstore (our sponsor and locale), An Unlikely Story! The event, How to Get and Keep Boys Reading, is the counterpart to last spring’s event, Celebrating Heroines in Fact and Fiction.

To be held October 5th at 7:00 p.m., the event will host children’s and Young Adult authors whose books are of special interest to boys and young male teens: Jack Gantos, author of the Joey Pigza books; Jeff Kinney, of Diary of A Wimpy Kid fame; author/illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka, creator of the Lunch Lady graphic novels; Jon Scieszka, Time Warp Trio and Stinky Cheese (enough said); and, our current National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and Printz award-winning author of American Born Chinese, Gene Luen Yang.
Seats are limited, so register early (and discover all the details) at: Event Information and Registration.
This website, where you find all the details for this once-in-a-lifetime event, is also an educator’s dream – an author study resource to help prepare for the event, which we hope many boy (and girl) readers will attend in person!
Scroll down the page to find mini-author bios, introducing each author’s career path and works. An image for a major book from each of the five guests is also included.
Additionally, article links which provide tips and inspiration for budding writers, written by NCBLA’s Executive Director, Mary Brigid Barrett, are included, along with Maria Salvadore’s (Reading Rockets) advice on how to nurture young readers. Educators, you will be happy to find direction on “How to Get Boys Reading,” as well.
Last, but not least, kids will simply love watching the author interviews provided at the site.
Don’t delay! Major Event coming!
